Why Content Is King

Fresh Content is Critical for Your Website

Websites are living and breathing entities. Your website interacts with visitors, customers, and search engines like Google and Bing.   It’s important to keep your website content fresh, as a static website without updates may be considered “dead” by search engines – and if this happens, they’ll reduce the frequency of their spider (sometimes called a web crawler, which finds and then indexes the content of your website for the search engine) visits. If search engines notice that your website has fresh content regularly, and this content is of high quality, they’ll visit you more often to index your website content. If your website is “dead”, your search engine listings soon will be too. It’s as simple as that.

Get Frequent Indexing By Search Engines

The more often you update your website with articles, downloads, and new web pages, the more often a search engine will stop by to visit your website.  This fresh indexing gives your website the chance to get higher rankings based upon your content (and the search engine algorithms in play at the time). Fresh content offers the chance to get more keywords on your site, new topics, new areas of interest – and thus potentially find more customers. But… quality is key. If you don’t write quality content, you’re going to find yourself penalised by the major search engines over time. This is why hand crafted, human written content will generally always win over robot-written keyword stuffed articles.

Google Is A Website Publisher’s Friend

Google serves about 95% of all search queries on the Internet. It’s the king of search engines, and it has a huge influence on how websites are constructed.  Google has publicly stated that it loves websites with fresh content that update frequently. As a rough rule of thumb, a frequently updated website can be considered done that publishes new content 2 or 3 times a week, or more. It’s for this reason that Content New Zealand recommends our various Subscription based content packages. With good planning, our content packs (see Content Packages and Pricing) can provide regular fresh content for your websites, that allow you to publish new content “frequently” – increasing your chances of being positively viewed by search engines.

Write More Content, With More Keywords

Keywords in your content are highly important for search engine indexing and ranking.  The more frequently added content you have, the more chance you have to infuse this content with keywords relevant to your website. Here at Content New Zealand we suggest that you write a variety of content around your chosen niche, with each page or article concentrating on a different aspect or viewpoint on a related topic. For example, if your website covers food topics, you might have pages about fried food, raw food, vegan food, plant based meat replacements, gluten free foods, spicy foods, etc. Each time you add new content, you can incorporate new and valuable keywords that Google can use to direct potential customers with to your website. Be careful not to “keyword stuff” – a page filled with keywords but of low quality content will not rank well with search engines.

If you’re using keywords in your website for Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) purposes, make sure that any keywords you’re writing fit naturally in place of your content. Your primary aim should always be to provide high quality information for your readers, or to answer possible questions for them. Don’t write your content around keywords. Do write your content around what your readers want. Content is king, but your readers are your Queen! Content should look and feel as “natural” as possible. You can use title tags, Meta tags, keyword descriptions, and structured HTML layout (e.g. H1, H2 tags) but leave your content as natural as you can.

Become An Authority For Your Industry

If your website is considered an “authority” on a topic by Google, you’ll get more search engine traffic. Becoming an authority takes time, and fresh content is vital to build this ranking or “Domain Authority” (DA) as it is sometimes known. Authority sites tend to have large amounts of quality content on particular topics, sometimes hundreds or thousands of pages. Google knows when a website is becoming popular or an authority, based on its own Google Analytics if installed, but also on the number of backlinks that other websites have pointing to your content. Encouraging other websites in your business category to link to you is a great strategy – but you’ll need high quality content to influence them.

In general, if you write regularly on a particular topic and your content is useful and is of high quality, you’ll become more of an authority on that topic. The higher your Domain Authority, the more traffic you should expect from search engines. The more traffic you get, the more chance you have of securing new customers, and earning their trust. Authority can be built using your website content alone, but Content New Zealand recommends that you also post in Social Media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to enhance your reach and expand your credibility. For example, if you answer questions in forums and online discussion groups, or if you post good in-depth articles into these social media groups, you can build your online reputation and gain authority for your content.

Keep Your Audience Happy

You must keep your website audience engaged on a regular basis if you want them to keep visiting you. Your website must be fresh: very few people will buy from a website that hasn’t been updated for years. Trust is important when visiting any website. Consistently publishing top-quality content can help users to become loyal to you and your brand.

You can write your own content – but having content that’s been written by people with long-term website experience can really help. When a reader visits your website for the first time, this provides an opportunity to convince them that your product or service is the best choice for them in the crowded market. Your website content needs to be written in a way that’s useful for your potential customers. If you’re trying to sell to customers then you should inform them of your product or service benefits, and help them to better understand why they need your product. Content New Zealand are experienced writers who understand this.
